Halo and Twig- Melinda Dalke

Halo and Twig-A Very Special Pair

Halo and Twig, two kittens that were born at Tabby's Place; their mother, Heather, arrived pregnant from a shelter where she had been scheduled for euthanasia. As soon as the kittens began to move about, we noticed that something was amiss with both of them. Halo's ability to walk seemed very limited, and Twig could not stand up on his hindquarters. A lot of testing, including an MRI for Twig, revealed that the kittens have Cerebellar Hypoplasia, a neurological condition affecting the cerebellum, which affects movement and coordination. Halo can walk, but looks like she's drunk when she does, and often falls down. Twig will never be able to use his hind legs or walk on his own. Although both were very sweet-natured, we figured that finding a home for the two was an impossibility.

Despite the medical monitoring and special care both will require, we were determined to provide a safe and comfortable environment for them for life. Where does the "success" part of this tale come in? To our surprise, a cat-lover in Maryland became interested in the kittens. After several lengthy conversations with our staff, she and her husband drove up to meet them. It was love at first sight. The kittens went home with this couple, and, at last report, everyone's doing well.

Malcom- another Tabby's Place Rescue in need of a home

What a wonderful and heartfelt story. I am always brought to tears when hearing of the kindness humans have for pets. I want to thank Pam from Tabby's Place for sharing such an inspiring story with us. -MD
