Before adopting a pet you should evaluate you, your family and your life. Here are some questions to help you through the process.
What do you and your family want? Do you have children, are they ready for a pet? Do you have enough time every day to spend with your pet? Is everyone in agreement on getting a pet? Do you have room? Can you afford a pet-vaccines, food, medical care? What age pet-do you want to housebreak them, litter box train? If not, look for older pets who are already trained. Are you and your family ready for the commitment? Do you work a lot? Do you have enough room? Is there someone to care for the pet if there is an emergency? If you find a purebred pet do some research about the breed to see if it suits you and your family's lifestyle.
If you have another pet ask a volunteer in the shelter, they may let you bring your pet in to meet your potential pet.
